Before you buy an engagement ring, decide how much you can actually pay for it. Save up for that ring if necessary. Put aside how much you can afford to save each month so that after a year, you would have enough to buy that ring for her. If your relationship can't last that year or at least long enough for you to buy that ring, how long would the resulting marriage last if you were to propose to her today?
